3M 5423 and 3M 5421 tapes feature a UHMW-PE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) thermoplastic backing, coated with a rubber adhesive. This UHMW film provides exceptional hardness and a slick surface, delivering a unique combination of low-friction performance, chemical resistance, and durability against wear and vibration. It creates a “slip-plane” effect, minimizing friction and noise, such as squeaks, during operation. Ideal for the aerospace, automotive, printing, and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) industries, it’s especially effective for enhancing the performance of conveyor guide rails, chutes, and protecting sensitive surfaces during manufacturing. Additionally, 3M 5423 is a thicker version of 5421.
